Buy Signs

If you want to sell your things, do the following:

1. Add a sign
Use the following formatting:
Line 1: [buy]
Line 2: (can be anything)
Line 3: (can be anything)
Line 4: Price

Lines 2 and 3 can be anything, so make it descriptive. I recommend following the format in the screenshot, but feel free to make it whatever you want.

2. Place a chest and add your items
Only place the quantity of what you want to sell. If you want to sell only 1 item per transaction, only place 1 of that item in the chest. If you want to sell a stack, only place 1 stack in the chest. After you link the sign and the chest, you can add more of whatever you're selling and it'll only sell the amount that you initially specified. In this example, I want to sell 3 diamonds at a time, so I only placed 3 diamonds in the chest. Afterwards I can place stacks of diamonds and it will still only sell 3 diamonds per transaction.

3. Select the chest to be linked
Take out some redstone and LEFT CLICK the chest to select it. You will see the following message:

4. Select the sign to be linked
After the chest is selected, LEFT CLICK the sign with redstone to link the chest and the sign together. You will see the following message:

5. After linking
Your sign and chest are now linked! The [buy] part of the sign should now turn blue. At this point, you can place more of what you're selling in the chests. It will still only sell the amount that you initially specified.

Additional Info:

  • When buying or selling, left click the sign to see what you're actually buying or selling. It's very possible to lie on the shop sign since lines 2 and 3 can be anything. However, left clicking the sign will always tell you what you're buying or selling, no matter what is on the sign. You will see this text:

  • You can link multiple chests to the same sign. If you want to have 5 chests of cobble and sell 32 cobble for each transaction, then only place 32 cobble in ONE chest, then select all 5 chests with redstone and finally select your sign to link them.
  • Your chests and signs do not need to be next to each other, but they do have to be within 350 blocks of each other. Chests could be at a house in spawn for example. This allows you to gather resources and fill your shop's inventory without having to visit your shop. If you do this, I recommend placing a sign for each chest to note what goes in what chest. Grieving by replacing items in the chest is not possible. If you link a chest with diamonds, but replace the diamonds with cobble, it won't sell the cobble as a replacement.
  • When your chests run out of items, the [buy] part of the sign will turn red. When you replenish stock, it'll turn blue again.
  • You can't link multiple signs to the same chest. When you link the second chest, it will break the connection with the first chest.
