I'd like to do monthly book clubs where we separate threads based on a book we pick and all read it at our own pace. We can talk about various chapters within each thread (to avoid spoilers!) The books I choose will be e-books under $10 so that they're available to everyone and not super expensive. They may not be well known, but they'll be good quality books that I often find on sell. If you have any suggestions for books (you haven't read!) that we should read for February, let me know!
I just bought Artemis by Andy Weir (the guy who wrote The Martian) and it sounds pretty fun! It seems to have a bit of a Firefly vibe, in my opinion. If you guys are interested, I can hold off on reading it.
Jasmine Bashara never signed up to be a hero. She just wanted to get rich.
Not crazy, eccentric-billionaire rich, like many of the visitors to her hometown of Artemis, humanity’s first and only lunar colony. Just rich enough to move out of her coffin-sized apartment and eat something better than flavored algae. Rich enough to pay off a debt she’s owed for a long time.
So when a chance at a huge score finally comes her way, Jazz can’t say no. Sure, it requires her to graduate from small-time smuggler to full-on criminal mastermind. And it calls for a particular combination of cunning, technical skills, and large explosions—not to mention sheer brazen swagger. But Jazz has never run into a challenge her intellect can’t handle, and she figures she’s got the ‘swagger’ part down.
The trouble is, engineering the perfect crime is just the start of Jazz’s problems. Because her little heist is about to land her in the middle of a conspiracy for control of Artemis itself.
Trapped between competing forces, pursued by a killer and the law alike, even Jazz has to admit she’s in way over her head. She’ll have to hatch a truly spectacular scheme to have a chance at staying alive and saving her city.
Jazz is no hero, but she is a very good criminal.
That’ll have to do.
Propelled by its heroine’s wisecracking voice, set in a city that’s at once stunningly imagined and intimately familiar, and brimming over with clever problem-solving and heist-y fun, Artemis is another irresistible brew of science, suspense, and humor from #1 bestselling author Andy Weir.
I am currently on the 7th Wheel of Time book. It's high fantasy by Robert Jordan. I've already read the game of thrones series and they are way better than the series if that's even possible. I'm also reading "the name of the wind" by Patrick ruthefuss. They are both fairly complex lol I don't know if I could throw another one in without getting storylines confused. I think I will need a break from Robert Jordan pretty soon. Been working on this series for like a year. Ha!! And there are at least 6 more books. Curse you older brother for introducing me to such a long series!!!
Awesome! I'm almost done with oathbringer (3rd book in the stormlight archive serie) so I will need something new to read. But I will skip next month if we are reading game of thrones since I did a re-read of that book a couple of months ago.
